Pink Season press launch on Sept 11, 2013
The following is an announcement by the Pink Alliance, organisers of Pink Season:
Organised by the Pink Alliance, the Pink Season is Hong Kong, as well as Asia's largest LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) cultural festival spanning over 2 months from September 12th to November 10th, 2013. Now in its third year and with over 35 events planned, the Pink Season 2013 promises to be bigger and better, showcasing a culturally diversified platform of activities going on in the community.
“The Pink Season 2013 aims to raise Hong Kong's profile as an LGBT friendly city and promote community spirit and giving”, said Bess Hepworth, Pink Season 2013’s coordinator. “The festival is more than just highlighting LGBT arts, culture and events in Hong Kong – it reveals the dynamic elements that make up our community, and shows what it means to be LGBT in Hong Kong and in Asia today”.
She continues: “The Pink Season would never exist without the city’s wonderful and diverse LGBT’s organisations and their volunteers, young and old, but also to our straight allies”.
James Wang, Director of Operations for Barclays, Pink Season’s flagship sponsor said Barclays is extremely proud to sponsor the Pink Season 2013. The festival perfectly represent our organisation’s core purpose and values, and our diversity strategy which supports our LGBT colleagues and customers." The Pink Season 2013 was themed Pink Reveal for these 3 reasons:
1. Revealing Ourselves: Pink Season aims to reflect the vibrancy and the constant progress within the Hong Kong’s LGBT community. We strive to provide diverse platforms and opportunities for members of our community to feel comfortable and proud.
2. Revealing the Community: Our pink community is constantly thriving and evolving. The Pink Season endeavors to reveal the many flourishing community groups within our community. We also aim to support and showcase local artists’ contribution to Hong Kong’s cultural landscape.
3. Revealing Straight Allies: We are inviting our straight friends and family to 'come out' and actively show their support either by organising their own LGBT friendly events, or by participating in events throughout the Pink Season.
