A popular gay cruising spot near Kuala Lumpur has been outed by an English-language tabloid newspaper in Malaysia.
The StarMetro claimed that the park has been a popular place for homosexual and bisexual activity for the past 15 years.
“The ambient light from nearby condominiums and the general city glare gave a twilight cast to the park and men could be seen walking about, seemingly aimless or seated looking at their smartphones at points around the central park area.
“The boathouse sees an almost unending stream of men of all ages coming in and going out,” the newpspaper said.
The newspaper spoke to a 33-year-old man in the park who said that cruising was better than meeting people online.
“Half the time when I go on the app and chat and make appointments to meet with the other guy, the person does not show up.
“Or their profile is deceiving. The profile picture put up doesn’t look anything like the person you actually meet,” he said.
The story was criticized by Malaysian LGBTI rights group Seksualiti Merdeka who said it had ‘deliberately exposed’ the privacy of gay men.
