After China's social media giant, Weibo, last week reversed a controversial decision to ban homosexual content after an online outcry a video showing activists asking passers-by on the streets of Chengdu for hugs to show their support went viral on China's social media.
Activists accused the company of smearing LGBT by censoring content to meet government censorship laws targeting pornography. Since Weibo announced the move earlier this month, tens of thousands of Chinese residents took to social media to protest with the #Iamgaynotapervert hashtag alongside images of hearts and rainbows.
