After stirring up a storm playing the New York underground circuit for a couple of years, the band finally got noted by actor Elijah Wood who signed the band to his own recording label Simian Records, which is a joint venture with indie label Yep Roc. "I met Elijah about 3 years ago through a friend. Elijah's a huge music fan, so we got along really well," Heloise says. "Then he came to see the band, and he really liked it. A year or so after that, we were trying to figure out the whole record deal situation, and we had a near miss signing with a labelnot a great experience. Then Elijah said, 'Why don't I put your record out?' I couldn't believe it at the time, but now it's really happening."
