In 2003, Danny Boyle resuscitated the zombie genre with his utterly thrilling horror flick 28 Days Later. It was so successful that lead actor Cillian Murphy became an overnight star, appearing in films such as Batman Begins, Red Eye, Sunshine, The Wind that Shakes the Barley and Breakfast on Pluto.
28 Weeks Later sort of picks up from where the first film left off, but with an entirely different cast and a different director, namely Juan Carlos Fresnadillo. It stars Robert Carlyle as a human survivor of the zombie invasion. He returns to his home in London after the United States army has been called in to set up a safe zone, and is reunited with his two children (played by young actors Imogen Poots and Mackintosh Muggleton what curious names!)
Soon, his wife also appears, but her bloodshot eyes suggest that she could be a carrier of the "rage" virus. Before you can say "Achtung", London is soon overrun once again by the screaming, sprinting living dead...
28 Weeks Later is a fun and watchable genre movie that should satisfy fans of zombie movies. Though it's not quite in the same creative league as the first, it's still a worthwhile sequel.
