What do you want when you watch a football movie? Simple. Great football action. Unfortunately, Kallang Roar has none.
Set in the 1960s and 1970s, it's based on a true story of Singapore coach Choo Seng Quee as he struggles to build a solid Singapore football team that would go on to win the Malaysia Cup in 1977. Played by the ever-reliable Lim Kay Siu, it features football legends such as Quah Kim Song, Mat Noh, Rajagopal and Dollah Kassim.
Unfortunately, most of these characters are unfamiliar to young viewers. And plus the fact that this is not a well-made movie, it is unlikely to appeal to anyone below 40. Even the football-playing scenes disappoint with its awkward and half-baked recreation of the great match of 1977.
