One of the most exciting things about Marina & The Diamonds' new music is that she successfully combines slick pop productions with her signature quirkiness and distinct point of view. For her forthcoming new album "Electra Heart," she teamed with mighty hitmakers like Dr Luke (Katy Perry), Rick Nowels (Madonna), Liam Howe (Sneaker Pimps) and Greg Kurstin (Lily Allen) to help create a radio-ready sound that she uses as a canvas to paint stories about topics like materialism and femininity. Those are not usually things discussed in big pop songs, but Marina has found a way to do straight up pop and not compromise who she is as an artist in the process.
After first unveiling the video for "Radioactive," the British singer now introduces fans to the video for her Dr Luke produced single "Primadonna" (the fourth part of her ongoing video series) that captures the point of view of someone in love and aching for attention that could have been the closing tune for My Week With Marilyn. "Beauty queen on a silver screen, living life like I'm in a dream. I know I've got a big ego," she sings. "Would you do anything for me? A big diamond ring? Would you get down on your knees for me? Pop that pretty question, right now baby."
Marina & The Diamonds also takes cues from a Marilyn Monroe-like character in the video for the song. The singer is shown posing, prancing and making love to the camera, always looking for attention from the ones watching. "Primadonna" clearly highlights one of the perspectives and roles Marina wanted to explore on "Electra Heart," which makes us wonder what character(s) we will be introduced to next.
