Listen to Black Eyes Peas 'Boom Boom Pow'

When I spoke with Will.I.Am at the GRAMMYs, he confided he was a little nervous about releasing the new Black Eyes Peas record.

After selling millions and millions of albums around the world, releasing an album and selling only, let's say, 2 millions records, would be an outright disappointment for the Peas.

And in these times of changing tastes and new internet phenoms emerging left and right, it is hard to predict how the new BEP record will perform when it drops later this year.

"Boom Boom Pow" is the first single taken from BEP's new record, which sets the tone for things to come. Will, Fergie and the rest of the team pulled out AutoTune, craftfully morphed their punchy vocals and layered it over a tight, futuristic electro beat. "I'm on that next shit now. I'm so 3008 and you're so 2000 and late," Fergie proclaims, introducing BEP's new sound.

The song is not as jovial and melodic as their previous hits, but the track is still catchy, relevant and represents a clear sonic progression for BEP.  Will has always had a knack for turning a gimmicky idea into something that is both compelling and playful, and "Boom Boom Pow" is no different. Give it a few spins and it will stick. You can stream the track on Will.I.Am's new social network, DipDive. Have a listen.
