Sunshine may be the best and brightest sci-fi film we've seen in a while.

Written by Alex Garland (The Beach) and directed by Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, 28 Days Later), it tells a gripping futuristic tale of a group of astronauts and scientists venturing to our dying sun to help resuscitate it. Along the way, the space crew receives a strange signal from another spaceship that was long thought to have disappeared. They decide to reroute their flight, and the consequences are tragic...

The plot may seem a little "been there, seen that", but watching it feels anything but. There are enough tension and surprises to keep you at the edge of your seat throughout its 108-minute running time. And the cast — which includes Michelle Yeoh, studmuffin Chris Evans (from Fantastic Four) and Hiroyuki Sanada (from The Ring) — is uniformly watchable and appealing.

British director Danny Boyle has once again made a terrific thrill-ride on a relatively small budget, putting to shame all the bloated Hollywood sci-fi films like that The Island and Red Planet that don't come anywhere close to being this entertaining.

Trust us — this is worth your money.
