4 July 2012 #434

Welcome back to another edition of the Fridae Movie Club Newsletter! We hope you have recovered from the Pink Dot celebrations last weekend.

This weekend though, it's time for the 4th of July celebrations. Most appropriately, our pick of the week is Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, a cheerfully demented reconstruction of American history that nobody would have expected. While some historians suggest that Lincoln's secretive nature was due to him being a closetted homosexual, the creators of this film have an even more alternate theory...

The right to love of a different kind is celebrated in Stricken, where a polyamorous couple must find strength and courage to live out their last days as a couple. You could say that this is a cancer/terminal illness story with a twist!

Till next week,

Vernon Chan

PICK OF THE WEEK

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Watch Abraham fight vampires — scene after sumptuous scene of Abraham Lincoln fighting vampires! Modern advocates of marriage equality take pride from the fact that in all 50 states and one federal territory of the United States of America, the union between vampire and human has gained acceptance in such a remarkably short time. It is as though overnight, the dark shadows of one and a half centuries of bigotry clothed in pseudo-religious arguments against 'miscegenation' have been banished by the better angels of our nature.
