The British Embassy and Queer Comrades, a Beijing-based LGBT awareness group, marked International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia with an event and debut of a short documentary, The Story of Mr Gay China, following the cancellation of China's first gay beauty pageant.

Legislator Cyd Ho Sau-lan, and former legislators Dr Fernando Cheung, Reverend Fung Chi Wood and Dr Lo Wing Lok join members of Hong Kong’s LGBT community and its allies in making a stand against homophobia and transphobia.

Organised by community groups including Rainbow of Hong Kong, Gay Harmony, Horizons and Amnesty International’s LGBT Group, Hong Kong will commemorate International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO) on Monday, 17 May at Chater Gardens.

What used to be known exclusively as a state in the American Northwest is now also an acronym for the International Day Against Homophobia movement – IDAHO, commemorated around the world on May 17. Justin Ellis looks at how grassroots movements on the Internet are rallying advocates to the IDAHO cause.

Instead of a march which has been traditionally held since 2005 to commemorate International Day Against Homophobia, a group of mostly straight students marched under the banner 'Straights for Homos' last Saturday while IDAHO organisers held a rally in Causeway Bay on Sunday.

Hong Kong's gay and lesbian community turned out in full force to mark the third annual International Day Against Homophobia.
