Queers, don't be fooled! Bridge to Terabithia is being marketed with the tagline "From the makers of Chronicles of Narnia". The trailers show you a series of special effects wizardry and CGI creatures that pop up in the movie.
But what the tagline and trailers don't tell you is that these CGI moments make up a very very small portion of the movie. Indeed, many people we know have been leaving the cinemas feeling disappointed even cheated by the apparent promise of another Narnia. Terabithia has about 1/50th of Narnia's splendid images and special effects and much of it can already be found in the trailer.
Terabithia is really a slow and sentimental coming-of-age drama about a lonely boy (Josh Hutcherson) who befriends the new girl (AnnaSophia Robb) in his class. Together they would run off into the woods behind their houses and imagine a fantasy world of castles, knights, warriors and trolls. However, the reality of their lives keeps crashing in...
Audiences who came to see "another Narnia" kept expecting the film to take off with phantasmagorical beasts and battles but it never does. Instead, the battles waged here are largely family quarrel, and the beasts found here are mostly school bullies.
Terabithia is a bore, made worse by its misleading marketing campaign.
