Many lesbians haven't stopped fantasizing about Liv Tyler since she appeared in a schoolgirl uniform in Aerosmith's video Crazy. Meanwhile, gay men have been drooling over Scott Speedman since he starred in Felicity. Without a doubt, these ultra-hot actors make The Strangers an exceptional thriller/horror film the must-watch of the week.
Very well-directed by first-timer Bryan Bertino, The Strangers has Liv and Scott play a loving couple who have just travelled from a friend's wedding to Scott's vacation home. Trouble starts when Scott goes off to buy cigarettes and Liv is left alone in the house. Someone starts knocking on the door a knocking that becomes insistent and ever more frightening...
Director Bertino is very, very good at generating suspense. His scenes are well-crafted and he knows how to raise the hairs on your neck just by having a stranger stand very quietly in the dark. He is also good with his actors, taking time to develop Liv and Scott's characters fully before the terror starts.
The Strangers is a good horror movie that deserves to be seen. It had opened in the US right smack in the summer season against heavyweights like Indiana Jones and Sex & the City. But it managed to hold its own at the box-office, raking in US$51.5 million so far. Considering that it's a few cuts above the rest, we're not surprised.
Fans of Liv, Scott and horror movies really shouldn't miss this!
