Months ago, news of a passionate lesbian scene involving the impossibly hot Scarlett Johansson and Penelope Cruz spread over the Internet quickly, prompting every celluloid-loving lesbian to fantasize what it must be like to watch these beautiful women getting it on.
Well, they need imagine no more. Vicky Christina Barcelona is here. And what a genuine treat it is! Whether you're a lesbian or not, you'll certainly enjoy this charming adult comedy by director Woody Allen, which is filled with warm humour, sexy performances and gentle wisdom.
Scarlett Johansson plays Christina, an adventurous American student who visits Barcelona with her friend Vicky (Rebecca Hall). There, she meets a charming Spanish artist (Javier Bardem, essentially playing himself) whom she has a fling with. Later, however, his ex-wife (a surly and smoking-hot Penelope Cruz) appears and seduces Christina too.
A couple of other people get on with other people. But essentially, the movie draws a nice contrast between uptight Americans (always needing to analyze what sex means) and free-spirited Spaniards (who enjoy life's pleasures without worrying about the consequences). In some ways, Vicky Christina Barcelona has insights for us Asians on our attitudes towards love and sex too.
Woody Allen has once again drawn a fine cast of characters dancing around each other's lives, in a perfect blend of comedy, sex and drama. It's the perfect adult movie for all of us and an extra-perfect movie for you if you're a lesbian.
