And the killing continues…
Five years since Saw introduced the “torture porn” genre to the world, the franchise continues to up the ante – much to the delight of horror fans, no doubt. The latest sequel, Saw VI, devises new and ingenious ways of killing its characters, while the actors themselves have found new ways of cringing, squirming and contorting their faces to denote excruciating pain.
Saw VI brings back from the grave Jigsaw, a mad murdering genius who wants to instill in his victims an appreciation for life – something which the terminally-ill psychopath felt all too deeply while he was alive. And with healthcare reforms, housing loans and bankrupt banks being the big talking points in the United States, Saw VI has cleverly capitalized on the issues and picked an insurance executive as Jigsaw’s victim.
Of all the Saw films, this latest entry may be the most socially current one, playing almost as an accompaniment to Michael Moore’s upcoming social docu Capitalism: A Love Story. And with its brilliant new torture contraptions, vomit-inducing gruesomeness and a bloody-terrific twist at the end, we can’t help but wait excitedly for… yes, Saw VII.
A must-see for horror buffs and gorehounds.
