Will.i.am sure didn't give himself a well-deserved vacation after wrapping up his work with the Black Eyed Peas who have gone on hiatus. Brimming with creativity and bursting with ideas, he went right back into the studio with some other heavy-hitters to lay down tracks for his second solo album that he was eager to get out pronto.
"T.H.E (The Hardest Ever)" delivers a sound that we have come to expect from Will. Produced together with Audiobot and Dallas Austin, it is a futuristic, electronic hip pop stomper that continues right where the Black Eyed Peas' "The Time" and its "dirty bit" left off. The song is grounded in a pulsing, synthesized groove of hypnotic proportions that is made to devastate the dancefloor.
Amidst Will.i.am's expert soundboard action and Lopez's polished chants, Rolling Stones' Mick Jagger delivers grit and raw power to the song that is nothing but thrilling and balances neatly with the song's processed beats.
Lyrically, the song taps into the spirit of Will's tireless work ethic expressed in his own style and swagger. He boasts, "I never rest in peace, I kill the game (. . .) You can go to work, or you can be the boss. I get stacks of cash, you get cashews."
Will.i.Am will formally premiere the track in a live performance with Lopez on this Sunday’s American Music Awards that airs on ABC at 8/7c. The song will be made available on iTunes immediately following the show. "T.H.E (The Hardest Ever)" is taken from Will's "#willpower" LP, which will be released next year.
