Fans of Hurts, Frankmusik and other finely-tuned European synth pop will be in for a treat with the music of Dutch singer Thomas Azier. Check out a totally guilt-free download of his new single "Red Eyes," a classically powerful synth pop gem featuring twinkling synths and Azier's grand, epic vocals that perfectly express a timeless melancholy.
In a press release, Azier poignantly sums up what he intends to do with his music. "Music has turned into nothing more than just a rush in the background while you are busy doing other things," he explains. "I don’t want to change that, but I try to make something that will catch your ear and communicate with you."
Growing up in a small town in the Netherlands, Azier began making music because there really wasn't anything else to do. Azier, like many young musicians today, began producing tracks on his computer and taught himself how to compose, mix and produce music. Looking for inspiration, the young singer moved to Berlin when he was nineteen, which changed his entire artistic outlook.
Instantly inspired by the pulse, atmosphere and futuristic architecture of the city, Azier began experimenting with his voice, also adding new equipment to his practice. Layering his productions with dramatic symphonic vocals, and an aggressive number of synthesizers, his work began to tell the stories of his new life, the music communicating this evolution with "emotive, passionate and unabashed fervor," as he writes.
