The Ten Commandments

Director: Directors: Bill Boyce, John Stronach

Starring: (Voice)Ben Kingsley, Christian Slater, Alfred Molina, Elliott Gould

Release: 2007-12-04

The story of Moses and the Ten Commandments is an oft-told tale among Christians, Muslims and Jews. As such, this 3D computer-generated animation about the prophet and his life should interest many viewers out there

Unfortunately, the cartoon is neither well-drawn nor well-told. Animation technology has come such a long way that most viewers apart from very young children will not have the patience to sit through 90 minutes of stiff-looking cartoon characters. The story also moves far too slowly for its own good, such that climactic events like the parting of the Red Sea aren't nearly as spectacular as they should be.

Most of the voice talents are good, especially Elliot Gould as God's voice and Alfred Molina as Ramsey. But they're not good enough to overcome the clunky animation. If you want a dramatic movie about the Ten Commandment, skip this sleep-inducing cartoon and rent Cecil B DeMille's 1956 version with Charlton Heston instead.
