If Gwen Stefani and Nelly Furtado would ever have a love child, her name would be Rai Knight. Check out a guilt-free MP3 download of her debut single "Pivotal" to get a taste of this emerging pop phenom who turns a blend of soul, trip pop and electronica into a savvy pop sound that radio DJs everywhere will salivate over.
So who is this hot, new talent that is about to pop onto the scene? Let me give you a quick introduction. Fed on a hearty diet of David Bowie, The Police, Michael Jackson and The Beatles, Rai got a taste for music when she was only nine years old and started toying around with a small boombox to make mixtapes.
The Warren, MI native started writing songs at the age of fifteen when she decided that music should not just be a hobby, but a full-time gig. After moving to Los Angeles and then to Scottland to work with several bands, the singer moved back to Detroit in 2009 to get serious about a solo career.
Now signed to FrontStreet Records, Rai is hard at work to write songs and create a unique sound of her own. She successfully crafts a musical style that is inspired by the great pop melodies of the past, echoes some of pop's biggest female icons and infuses it with the gritty, urban pulse of Detroit.
