[REMIX] Childish Gambino "Heartbeat" (Ashworth Remix)

Following his excellent remix of Gym Class Heroes "Ass Back Home" (featuring the amazing Neon Hitch), Ashworth is at it again and cranks out a fantastic remix of Childish Gambino's new single, "Heartbeat."

The rising New York soundboard prodigy was inspired by the moody undertones of Gambino's original that are accentuated by its hard-edged electro stylings. Ashworth took that sentiment and upped the dancefloor sensibilities of the song with a pulsing new electro groove, sparkly sounds effects and Balearic-styled, euphoric synth chords that are pretty darn epic.

Ashworth writes me, "When I first heard 'Heartbeat,' I was impressed by the hard crunch bass behind Glover's vocals. However, I decided keeping this element would simply let the original speak to much for a remix so I decided to rip everything out except his vocals and build from there."

The producer (who is also a gifted vocalist) understands the power of big, melodic drops that are all the rage right now in dance music. "I wanted to dive into the progressive house genre, a sect of dance music I don't dabble in too frequently," he explains. "As I built the chords, I really enjoyed letting 'Heartbeat' burst into a flowing, melodic drop in which I felt the original never really got to. The remix stays pretty minor the whole time in order to reflect the angry and confused lyrics that are supplied by Glover."

Ashworth's remix is included on a remix package of Childish Gambino's "Heartbeat" that is available on iTunes, and also includes remakes by Oliver, Treasure Fingers, Michael Brun, Tommie Sunshine, Little Dragon, Religion and Peter Wade. Ashworth's remake is my favorite of the bunch and underlines once again what an incredible talent he is. And he's only just getting started.
