Over 10,000 LGBT Hong Kongers and their allies, friends, families and colleagues gathered to form an iconic human pink dot to symbolise inclusivity and diversity, according to organisers.
The celebration of diversity and equality, the third Pink Dot carnival was held at West Kowloon Cultural District waterfront and co-organised by BigLove Alliance and Pink Alliance. The festival moved to the larger venue after reaching capacity at Tamar Park last year.
Abby Lee, co-founder of gay group Les Peches and event co-director said: “We were glad to see that people loved it and that Pink Dot evolved from a fairly simple outdoor concert in the name of love to a true destination representative of the diversity of not only the LGBTI community but of our allies: friends, family and colleagues, even our pet,” according to Hong Kong Free Press.
Also in attendance were celebrities Anthony Wong, Gigi Chao, Vinci Wong and Denise Ho, as well as politicians Raymond Chan and Cyd Ho. Professor Alfred Chan Cheung-ming, Chairperson of the Equal Opportunities Commission, also attended.
“This is the first time for me to take part in Pink Dot Hong Kong. I am really pleased to see people from different sectors, age groups and nationalities all gathered in West Kowloon to support this meaningful event that promotes diversity and inclusion,” he said.
