Watch: Thousands march for Hong Kong pride

More than a dozen top diplomats and several Hong Kong legislators attended the parade.

Some 10,000 LGBT advocates and supporters marched for equality on Saturday, according to organisers.

Attendees of the city’s ninth annual pride parade celebrated a landmark court decision granted a British lesbian the right to live and work in Hong Kong with her partner and Hong Kong being chosen as the first Asian city to host the Gay Games.

Jimmy Sham Tsz-kit, a spokesman for the parade’s organisers, told the South China Morning Post he was disappointed that Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor did not accept their invitation to attend the event.

More than a dozen top diplomats, several Hong Kong legislators and the chairman of the Equal Opportunities Commission, Alfred Chan Cheung-ming joined the march from Causeway Bay’s Victoria Park to Admiralty’s Tamar Park.

Police estimated the number of attendees as 1,900.
