Hong Kong Lesbian pop star tells UN to remove China from rights council

Amid demonstrations by hundreds of thousands, Denise Ho urged the international community to protect freedoms in semi-autonomous Hong Kong.

Hong Kong singer and activist Denise Ho warned the UN on Monday (8 July) that freedom was ‘under serious attack’ in China’s semi-autonomous region of Hong Kong. Ho, a Cantopop (Cantonese pop) legend who came out as a lesbian in 2012, has been at the forefront of mass demonstrations in the territory over the last month. In her address to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), she urged the 47-nation body to suspend China.
