Some 800 partygoers are expected to throng Caf del Mar located on Singapore's report island of Sentosa this Saturday as Australian DJ Kate Monroe (House) and DJ Nun (Hip-Hop/R&B) from the Thai capital will play at the local offshoot of the renown Ibiza-based club with a pool, outdoor day beds and cabanas.
Organisers Two Queens, known for their weekly Thursday night parties at Play, say the event was conceptualised by celebrity actress and founder of the parties Irene Ang and spokesperson Wendy Ng.
"We've been wanting to do a beach party for the longest time. Instead of doing a standard event, we wanted to start a party that could generate regional interest, through bringing international DJs to our sunny island." Ng added that the event has attracted attendees from Malaysia and as far away as Hong Kong, Thailand and Australia.
Partygoers can expect their regular host Irene Ang, fire poi babes, Two Queen Party dancers and a bikini babe contest.
Fridae speaks to DJ Nun (pictured above) ahead of the party and finds out what's in store!
æ: ASOL (Age, Sex, Occupation, Location)
Nun: 20s, female, DJ, Bangkok
æ: Where were you born and where did you grow up?
Nun: I was born and raised in Bangkok.
æ: Did DJ'ing happen by chance or have you always wanted to get into it?
Nun: I've always wanted to be a DJ ever since I started partying because I wanted to be in control of the music and I love to watch the crowd dance.
æ: How did you get started and how did you get your big break?
Nun: I have many friends who are DJs and I picked up my skills from them. I started spinning part time for a friend. My big break came when I was selected to be a resident DJ at Route66, one of the biggest clubs in Bangkok.
æ: What kind of tunes can partygoers expect at Qtopia?
Nun: All the girls can expect the fun time from me with the new R&B songs. I can guarantee that they will not forget the great time for long, long time.
æ: What are the challenges (and benefits) of being a woman in a male dominated industry?
Nun: The most challenging part about being a female DJ is that I have to spin hip hop music with explicit lyrics which I find is not appropriate; don't be fooled by my appearance, I am still very conservative at heart. My schedule is always packed as female DJs are in big demand in Bangkok.
æ: Tell us more about the girls' (lesbian) party scene in Bangkok and where are the best places to go right now?
Nun: The lesbians in Bangkok are friendly, love to have fun and party. The best places to go right now is RCA and Soi Thong Lor.
æ: What is your favorite current track?
Nun: It's got to be Chris Brown's "With You."
æ: Who is your biggest musical influence?
Nun: Fergie, need me say more... she ROCKS!
æ: Describe your most memorable set - where, when, and what happened?
Nun: In Pattaya last year... beach parties, I love beach parties. The atmosphere then was fantastic, the crowd was great, I enjoyed myself so much it didn't felt like work.
æ: What would you be doing if you were not a DJ?
Nun: I would be a chef cos I love to cook.
æ: What inspires you?
Nun: Music is my biggest inspiration as I feel that I can reach out to the people with the music that I spin during parties. I get a lot of satisfaction when the crowd responds to the music I spin.
æ: Other than DJ'ing, what else do you like doing?
Nun: I love to cook and try out new dishes.
æ: Tell us about the person(s) you are seeing. If not, describe your ideal mate.
Nun: My ideal partner is someone who will pamper me with lotsa of love and gives me utmost attention when we are together. I prefer someone older than me and also someone who loves to eat!
æ: How do you spend your Sundays?
Nun: My Sundays are spent catching up on my sleep and listening to new songs, this is the only day that I am off.
æ: Tell us about a cause that you support?
Nun: No specific cause, though I try my best to help the poor by donating money.
æ: Tell us something about you that even your mother doesn't know.
Nun: Hmm... That's tough one because I really cannot think of one. I'm really close to my mother and can tell her everything, there's no secret between us.
