If you're not sick of drug movies yet, then you may enjoy Nick Cassavetes' (son of John Cassavetes) new film Alpha Dog. Shot with a lurid and ferocious energy, Alpha Dog tells the rich story of rich spoilt Los Angeles kids gone bad.

Emile Hirsch plays a drug-dealing rich kid who plans the kidnapping of the teenage brother (Anton Yelchin) of one of his customers (Ben Foster) who did not pay for the drugs he bought. The kidnapping does not go as planned: The teenage boy enjoys being kidnapped as he goes on a drugs-and-sex rampage with his captors, and eventually ends up dead.

Based on a true story, Alpha Dog offers a gritty crime story the brims with vim and vigour. But there are a lot of similarly good crime stories these days, from CSI to The Wire. And as Alpha Dog doesn't offer anything particularly new in terms of style or content, it's hard to recommend it.
