First things first: According to history, dinosaurs did not exist at the same time as wooly mammoths and saber toothed tigers did. You got that? Good. Now you’re free to enjoy the first 3D instalment of Ice Age - historical inaccuracies be damned.

Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinousaurs brings back woolly mammoth Manny (voice of Ray Romano), saber tooth tiger Diego (Denis Leary) and Sid the sloth (John Leguizamo) to the screen to tickle your prehistoric funny bone.

The story centers on Manny and Diego’s efforts to rescue Sid after a Mommy T-Rex kidnaps the sloth for stealing her eggs. The timing couldn’t be worse – Manny himself is preparing to be a father with Ellie (Queen Latifah) while Diego is discovering his mellow domesticated side. Fortunately they meet Buck (Simon Pegg), a swashbuckling weasel who helps them look for Sid…

Compared to the previous two films, Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinousaurs is a lot more action-packed – perhaps to keep up with the faster pace of popular movies these days. There are plenty of running, chases and escapes to keep the young and the young-at-heart – yes, you – entertained.

The voice performances by Ray, John, Denis and the newest member of the herd, Simon Pegg, are excellent, while the visual imagery is given a boost with 3D technology. For cartoon lovers, Ice Age 3 should give you your money’s worth.
