Free Download: Sea Wolf 'Song For A Magpie'

Time for something a little different. Something very, very pretty.

Check out a new song from Los Angeles based indie outfit Sea Wolf, titled "Song For A Magpie," that is featured in Augusten Burroughs new audio book, Wolf at the Table. The audio book is a unique, collaborative effort between author Augusten  Burroughs, singer/songwriter Alex Church of Sea Wolf and three other singer songwriters including Patti Smith, Ingrid Michaelson and Tegan Quin (of Tegan and Sara). Each artist read the book and then through their own creative process, responded with an original song.

"Each track is a completely unique interpretation of this harrowing, emotionally brutal story - from haunting to redemptive: from empathetic to soothing," Hipster Tipster writes me.

In an video interview with Amazon.com, the celebrated author explains that he had a very unique vision for the audio version of his latest book. "I've had the same audio publisher for my entire career (...) and the audience books have always been pretty much the same. I go into a studio and I record speaking in my normal voice," Burroughs explains. "This is not that book. I had a vision. This is an Augusten performance artist piece that I wanted to do. There's never been an innovation in the audio book category - not since celebrity voiceovers.

"I wanted something cinematic. I wanted something for my iPod fans. People of my generation or even younger who grew up with film and television and who think of audio books in a different way. I wanted everything I fell directly to the listener."
