Hollywood sure knows how to name its characters. We've met Holly Goodhead and Pussy Galore and Goodman Beaver and Ivana Humpalot. And now, we have Bob Lee Swagger. (Snigger, snigger...) But even though the name is ridiculous, the character is not, and neither is the film. On the contrary, Shooter is a terrific action-packed shootout that delivers in spades.
Mark Wahlberg plays Swagger, a tough ex-Marine who has been framed by two bad guys (Danny Glover and Elias Koteas) for the attempted assassination of an Ethiopian archbishop. But Swagger is far too smart for any of them. Before they can make jokes about his name, Swagger turns the game on them and exacts his revenge...
Butch dykes and macho faggots would simply love Shooter. There are enough chases, explosions, gunplay, double-dealing and backstabbing to keep them watching. The best thing about this adrenaline-pumping thrill-ride is that it knows its target audience and it gives them exactly what they want. Well, with a lead character's name like Bob Lee Swagger, one wouldn't expect any less.
