Think we have just found the perfect dress for 2010 Halloween party; Venus Williams’s risqué black and red lacy dress (and see-through panties). The black corset dress was first seen in red at Miami in March, but the updates have clearly created a stunning see-through illusion.
Other than debuting at the Parisian clay courts with her sexiest outfit yet in her illustrious 15-year career, the 2010 French Open may well be Venus Williams’s last realistic chance at an elusive Roland Garros crown. More known for supremacy at lawns of SW19, the soon to be 30 year-old is currently making a bit of a run. Her recent good form has seen her stormed to four finals, with a tour leading, 29-4. Should she take home this title, she will be in good position to dethrone Serena for the top ranking by Wimbledon.
Venus recently reclaimed the number two spot for the first time since 2003 and she enjoys a relatively “easy” draw to the finals compared to sister, Serena. We will lift our expectations for Venus should she overcome her Madrid finals conqueror, Aravane Rezai in the projected fourth round match-up.
The Venus-Rezai fourth round match-up could pretty much shape the bottom half of the ladies singles draw. Yes, we are discounting defending champ, Svetlana Kuznetsova and two-time finalist Dinara Safina who are in the same half of the draw. Venus will have her work cut out to overcome a losing 1-2 record to Rezai, who is shaping up to be the “Mary Pierce” of 2010; recent French nationality and superb hard and flat groundstrokes.
Despite Venus’s rather patchy, 6-3, 6-3 round one win over Swiss veteran Patty Schnyder for the 11th straight time, we think she will improve over the next couple of matches and adjust to her least favourite surface.
V, it’s now or never.
