Pop alternative newcomer Rai Knight introduces a fresh, forward leaning pop sound on her quirky new single "Without U" that is a savvy re-make of Black Milk's original. The track is taken from the singer's new mixtape EP "Self Portrait."

So who is this bright new talent who hails proudly from the state of Michigan? Let me give you a quick introduction. Fed on a hearty diet of David Bowie, The Police, Michael Jackson and The Beatles, Rai got a taste for music when she was only nine years old and started toying around with a small boombox to make mixtapes.

Knight started writing songs at the age of fifteen when she decided that music should not just be a hobby, but a full-time gig. After moving to Los Angeles and then to Scottland to work with several bands, the singer moved back to Detroit in 2009 to get serious about a solo career.

Now signed to FrontStreet Records, Rai is hard at work to write songs and create a unique sound of her own. She successfully crafts a musical style that is inspired by the great pop melodies of the past, echoes some of pop's biggest female icons and infuses it with the gritty, urban pulse of Detroit.
