After his release of "Strobelight Seduction" in 2008, I lost Kaskade for a moment. It seemed his music was harder, less nuanced and more progressive than the soulful and loungy tunes that ruled his earlier work. It was almost as if he was finding a new groove as a DJ and favored soundboard experimentation over his signature sound.
But Kaskade's brand-new single "Eyes" brings back his bold brilliance. The song features Utah folk-pop singer Mindy Gledhill with whom Kaskade collaborated before on "Dynasty." "Eyes" is a grande, atmospheric piece of beautifully-composed downbeat dance-pop that has both a warming and euphoric quality to it. Soaring and soothing, "Eyes" is quite frankly some of Kaskade's best work to date.
Make sure to catch Kaskade headlining the Identity Festival tour over the next few weeks in North America. I will be serving as a special video correspondent for Identity bringing you some very exclusive content. Stay tuned for updates. Listen to Kaskade's "Eyes" after the break.
