Singapore's Pink Dot launched its 2013 campaign video on Wednesday night at a special preview attended by some 80 people including corporate contributors, partners, volunteers, and members of the LGBT community and the press.
The event was held at the brand new Parkroyal on Pickering hotel which has come on board as a corporate contributor of Pink Dot for the first time. It is joined by other contributors global financial firm J.P. Morgan, contact lens specialist CooperVision and audio branding agency The Gunnery in addition to Google which became the event's first corporate contributor in 2010 and international banking group Barclays in 2012.
Unlike previous campaign videos, the new video is for the first time set to a song – and one that is recognisable to all Singaporeans. Written and sung by prominent Singaporean media personality Dick Lee, the song "Home" is also the title of the video and the theme of the 2013 event.
Directed by acclaimed local filmmaker Boo Junfeng, this year’s campaign video touches on "issues faced by LGBT people in Singapore, including love, family acceptance, transphobia and personal loss as seen through the eyes of three protagonists in portrayals based on true-to-life experiences."
“This year, we wanted to tell the stories that define what home is to many lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in this country. Naturally, we found inspiration in ‘Home’, an evergreen National Day song that a lot of Singaporeans grew up with,” said Boo in a media statement.
“We found new meaning in the lyrics as we listened to the familiar tune, thinking about the stories we wanted to tell. About a woman coming home to a family who is not fully accepting of her sexuality, about a couple who grew old together in a society that can be more open-minded, about a young transgender person who is finding her place in a country she calls home. These are stories that reflect the realities in which many LGBT Singaporeans live.”
Similar to last year's edition, the event this year will culminate in the formation of a pink dot of shimmering lights at nightfall. In the afternoon, the Pink Dot Community Tent will showcase Singapore's growing number of community groups.
Fridae is proud to be a Founding Supporter of Pink Dot since 2009.

This is home truly, where I know I must be
Where my dreams wait for me, where that river always flows
This is home surely, as my senses tell me
This is where I won't be alone, for this is where I know it's home
