The film, directed by Lokesh, an independent film maker explores the emotional journey of a mother who gets to know that her son is gay and struggles to come to terms with it.
Popular south Indian actress Anupama Kumar is playing the role of the mother free of cost while actor-filmmaker Nakshatra Bagwe plays her son.
The movie is being crowd-funded and the actors and directors have included the plea for the funds in the trailer as well.
The film comes at a time when the gay, lesbian and bisexual community in India is facing severe constraints, waging a legal battle to do away with the British colonial-era “Section 377” law that describes same-sex relations as “unnatural” and punishable with life imprisonment.
The Supreme Court past December upheld the validity of Section 377, reversing the 2009 Delhi’s high court ruling that decriminalized it and gave the gay community broad protections and rights.
In January the Supreme Court dismissed a plea by the federal government, gay rights activists and organizations for reviewing its overarching verdict. Currently, a new Supreme Court bench has agreed to re-examine that decision.
