Bohemian Rhapsody will be released in China, but with all LGBT content cut!

Bohemian Rhapsody is to be shown in China without scenes or imagery deemed ‘LGBT themed’, it has been reported.

The Queen biopic tells the story of the band and front-man Freddie Mercury, up to their iconic 1985 Live Aid performance.

The report by The Hollywood Reporter allege there will be ‘at least one minute of cuts.’ The film will have a limited release, with screenings expected to begin in mid-March.

This comes just days after China was criticised for censoring Rami Malek’s acceptance speech at the 2019 Oscar Awards (where he won Best Actor for his performance as Freddie Mercury), by replacing ‘gay man’ with ‘special group’ in the Chinese subtitles.
