think [gospel music] is a great starting point for writing pop music because the
melodies and the structure of gospel songs are fantastic," she says in an interview with Kiwibox.com. Sandrine knew that she had to leave the church and spread her wings to pursue a career in music. She remembers, "I got to a certain age and I was like, 'I'm out of
here!'"
Sony Music Australia released her first album "Trigger" in 2004. The LP made it into the top 20 of Australian pop charts and she was named Songwriter of the Year by a major commercial radio station. For her next album, Sandrine wanted to make an album that emphasized her songwriting skills. She asked Malcolm Burn (Patti Smith, Emmylou Harris) to produce her sophomore album. The singer moved to upstate New York to record "Dark Fades Into Light" with the Burn last year.
Lead single taken from the album is "Where Do We Go" that you can download for free on Sandrine's MySpace page. The song is currently featured in a French advertising commercial for FNAC, a large music retailer. (Click here to download "Dark Fades Into Light" on iTunes.)
