This tired and cliche-ridden gangsterama is interesting only for its attempt to reunite the famous five TVB heartthrobs of the 1980s in one movie. Four of the five turned up, which isn't a bad score. Of the five TVB Tigers — Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Andy Lau, Michael Miu, Felix Wong and Kent Tong - only Tony is missing from the picture.
Michael Miu and Eason Chan play two brothers who are separated at birth by their triad father because of a prediction that the two will one day fight and tear the family business apart.
When the father dies, Michael is called upon to succeed as the triad head. But he ends up in jail after being betrayed by his rival triad members. The other son who has lived abroad for twenty years now has to return to Hong Kong to be triad head. Will the ominous prediction come true?
Directed by Derek Chiu, Brothers is so full of banal melodrama and predictable plot twist that it is no wonder Tony Leung chose not to take part in the project. You can give this a miss.
