Child actor Freddie Highmore is certainly getting a lot of work lately. He is currently seen in the lovely musical August Rush as well as this week's The Spiderwick Chronicles, in which he plays a pair of twins.
Based on a bestselling children's fantasy series, The Spiderwick Chronicles tells a spellbinding tale of young Simon (Freddie Highmore) who moves into an old house in the woods with his mother (Mary-Louise Parker), sister (Sarah Bolger) and twin brother (also played by Freddie).
When strange things happen in the house, Simon decides to investigate. He discovers a special book which introduces him to a world of magical creatures and monsters that live among the humans. Soon, Simon and his siblings become ensnared in an evil goblin's plot to control the entire kingdom...
Directed by Mark Waters, The Spiderwick Chronicles is a truly enchanting film that succeeds where Bridge To Terabithia and The Golden Compass have failed. Although it's not quite as complex and vividly-imagined as the Narnia and Harry Potter tales, it is still worth catching for fans of fantasy films.
