There are two good horror films this week, Quarantine and Hell's Highway: KM 31. Between the two, the former is way scarier even though the latter is certainly entertaining in its own right.
Remade from the terrific Spanish film [REC], Quarantine revolves around a TV reporter and her cameraman who are following a group of firemen around, hoping to film them in action. When the firemen receive a routine emergency call, the team races to the scene.
But things start to go horribly wrong and the reporter and her cameraman find themselves locked inside the building. Worse, there are things lurking in the dark, things baying for blood...
Director John Erick Dowdle seems to have followed the original Spanish version (which we loved) very closely. Quarantine builds up its scares and shock efficiently and relentlessly. Towards the end, you may find yourself barely able to breathe.
Trust us: This will scare you shitless.
