Let's get this straightened out from the very beginning — Taxidermia is such a sick movie that I can guarantee that almost everyone will leave the cinema feeling somewhat nauseous and sickened by they had just seen. This is a movie that truly defies explanation, and the fact that it is the sophomore work of the director of Hukkle, a pleasant, surrealistic film, makes it all the more inexplicable.

A three-generation tale of some very disturbed men, Taxidermia is split neatly into three parts — one for each generation — and a brief epilogue. The first part deals with the grandfather, a soldier who's sex-starved and has weird fantasies about fire, as well as some truly nasty sexual experimentation that doesn't even involve humans. His sexual escapades eventually leads to a son, who is born with a pig's tail and becomes a champion speed eater (with a specially devised technique of vomiting). Flash forward two decades, and the focus is now on the son, who is pretty schooled in the art of taxidermy, and is entertaining thoughts on self-taxidermy...

Taxidermia is a seriously disturbing movie, and may only really appeal to arthouse fiends. However, it's also a film that's morbidly fascinating — though I was quite horrified by some scenes in the show, I found myself unable to look away despite all the feelings of revulsion that arose from within. It's almost impossible to recommend a movie like this to anyone, and I won't, but if you're a purveyor of Rotten.com this may be right up your alley.
