Fans of Matinee Club, Shiny Toy Guns, A Kiss Could Be Deadly and other '80s inspired pop bands pay attention. Meet Dragonette, Canada's newest electro-pop sensation. Signed to Mercury UK, their first single is the guitar-powered electro stomper "I Get Around" that tells the story of a frantic morning after a one night stand. "Quietly slide away off the mattress. Find my clothing on the bed post. So I tip toe out of this mess. As I slip back into last nights dress," frontwoman Martina Sobara sings.
"I¹d like to write songs that at least I can remember. I¹m very bad at remembering melodies and the lyrics, so it needs to be memorable," Kurtz adds.
Australian indie darlings Van She remixed "I Get Around" and energized it with zingy synths and new guitar loops. Well-done but I prefer the compact, well-rounded original that is an excellent tastemaker of what's to come from this great new band. A big thank you to Universal/Mercury for allowing me to post this track. (Click here to purchase "I Get Around" on iTunes.)
