If I Were Superman may be touted as a comedy, but it's really a mushy melodrama with a message to boot.
My Sassy Girl 's Jeon Ji-Hyun plays a TV producer who is bored with her job. One day, she is saved from a robber by a man (Hwang Jeong-Min) who claims he is Superman. Unfortunately, because of the kryptonite stuck in his head, this particular Superman is unable to show his true powers.
Struck by his bizarre claims, Ji-Hyun decides to turn him into one of her subjects. Soon, her show Superman Saves The World becomes a hit among viewers and Superman becomes a mini-celeb. But it is only through watching him and his determination to save people at all costs that she realises the value of being human...
Directed by Jung Yoon-Chul, If I Were Superman starts off with an original plot. But it ultimately becomes too mushy and predictable to hold your attention. It also feels very long, and if the editors had snipped some 20 minutes off it, the movie would have been much better for it.
