Tinashé

Fraiche New Pop Alert! Tinashé is a new name you should know about. The Zimbabwe born singer is one of the fraichest new pop talents to emerge on the U.K. pop scene this year. Consider it just a matter of time before the U.S. will start to take notice in a big way.

Discovered and signed by Amy Winehouse's A&R rep, Tinashé is starting to make waves with his "Mayday" EP that features the lead track "Mayday." It is a gorgeous, soulful electro-pop track that is reminiscent of the delicate sounds of Imogen Heap and the melodic urges of the synth-happy Frankmusik. Mix in with this Tinashé's soulful delivery that echoes his African roots and what you have is something unique and different. Listen to the single version of "Mayday" on MySpace.

Tinashé is not the only one who is super excited about the release of his debut EP. "I'm so excited, so is my mum. She's probably phoned half of Africa by now," he jokes on his MySpace page.

Check out a beautiful acoustic rendition of "Mayday." Once the track loses all its soundboard wizardry, Tinashé's heartfelt delivery and poignant lyrics shine even brighter. His songwriting gets straight to the heart of the matter. "You loved to be the captain of the argument. I'm done flying with you. Mayday - we're going down," he sings. Tinashé just kills me what that. He's a talent to watch.
