AJEG SaJaN | Bali Pride 2014 is on February 9

Bali Pride 2014 will be held on Segara and Semawang Beach in Denpasar, Bali on February 9.

Bali Pride 2014 will be held on 9 February. The Pride event is entitled AJEG SaJaN and the theme of the event is to “cultivate our minds to Salak Bali (fruit) and Jalak Bali (birds), which are getting lost in paradise.”
The main purpose of Bali Pride is to promote the happiness and better living conditions for the LGBTcommunity on Bali Island. As organisers have pointed out, a lot of the LGBT people in Bali find themselves living lives of lies in loveless marriages or hiding their sexuality from those around them, in order that they can fulfil society’s expectations and pressure.
It is hoped that Bali Pride can act as a source of comfort and inspiration for the LGBT community suffering from discrimination or insecurities relation to their sexuality. Furthermore, organisers want to spread knowledge about sexuality and gender issues in Bali and the Indonesian Archipelago so that everyone can can become more accepting of LGBT family members, friends, colleagues and relatives.
So far the Bali Pride 2014 team has released a schedule which will take place on Segara and Semawang Beach in Denpasar, Bali. The event kicks off with a sunrise reflection and meditation session.  There are yoga sessions, walks, runs, games, and seminars on the beach throughout the day before the sun sets and the party is sure to start.

It is indeed a very good effort and meaningful event being planned by the local Balinese organizer to promote the awareness of local LGBT community, to combat discrimination and uphold equality for the sake of basic human rights.
Hopefully this will set a positive example and open the authorities' eyes in restrictive Islamic nations in the region such as capitals --- Jakarta, Indonesia; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; and Bandar Sri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam.
