Malaysian police have raided a gay club in Kuala Lumpur after receiving tip-offs from the public, according to the Singapore Straits Times quoting a report by the AsiaNews Network.
According to a police spokesman, 35 men aged between 20 and 53, including six employees had been arrested on Sunday night after the police found men having sex in the club.
While the 29 customers were released after their statements were taken, the six employees would be charged in court for operating the premise without a valid license and violating regulations.
While media reports did not disclose the name of the sauna in the Malaysian capital, insiders believe that the sauna in question is Babylon at Jalan Batu Estate, off Jalan Segambut.
The police believed to be from the anti-vice, gaming and secret societies branch confiscated several pornographic VCDs, condoms, membership cards and advertisements for the club's operations. The Harian Metro went on to describe that police found used condoms stained with faecal remains at the club.
Over in Singapore, three undercover police officers who masqueraded as patrons arrested two men at One Seven sauna on July 23.
According to a statement by One Seven, one officer climbed on the shoulders of another and with a lighter - looked into the cubicle next to theirs and saw the two men allegedly having "unnatural sex". They demanded the door to be opened immediately and held their identity cards.
At the time, other patrons were neither checked nor stopped from leaving. The staff at the sauna was told that the police were investigating a complaint.
The two men are due to appear in court in September. They have been charged under Section 377A where a "male person who, in public or private, commits, or abets the commission by any male person, of any act of gross indecency with another male person" under the Singapore Penal code.
As former British colonies, the Singapore and Malaysia penal codes have almost similarly worded Sections 377 and 377A, which prohibits sexual relations between men.
