When you're in the mood for songs that will do more than ruin your mascara (especially after finding out that the guy you went head over heels for decided to choose a different pair of heels to prop over his head), you should thank God for good ol' Brian McKnight.
Superhero is not what it initially sounds to beit's not that Brian's popularity has so overwhelmed him that he thinks he has supernatural powers. The "superheroes" he mentions are the people that make a difference in daily lifeteachers, firemen, police, and parents among others.
Nonetheless, he should have really thought twice about recording the absolutely horrific title track, which sounds like it came from an early '80s series about a man discovering that he could really fly, only to find out that he sucked at landing.
The biggest surprise in Superhero is the duet with Justin Timberlake of 'NSync (My Kind Of Girl) that shows that this twink is really not that bad in singing. The song, however, should only appeal to teenyboppers who probably think McKnight's an ex-member of The Temptations. Yes, it's a true grandfather-grandson duet when you really think about it.
Classics like Get Over You and Still are a joy to listen to. There are heavier issues though, such as When Will I See You Again, which confirms (without sounding overly gospel) the importance of God in McKnight's life. It's a moving account of how the world is "sinking down so low" and how it's "against the law to pray in school", although if you don't pay attention to the lyrics, you'd think it's just another love song.
