The last of eight singers to perform on Tuesday's show, Adam Lambert singing "Mad World" which got judge Simon Cowell up on his feet - said to be for the first time in a long time, if ever - has dominated entertainment news headlines on the Internet the day after.
The 26-year-old California native who is widely said to be gay after photos showing him in "glam-drag" and kissing another man created a stir on the Internet the first week of March 2009. He has not publicly commented about his sexual orientation.
Even conservative talk show host Bill O'Reilly showed the photographs on his Fox News show The O'Reilly Factor on Monday night. But the photos were cropped just where the pair's lips met.
Calling the photos "embarrassing" and which "hint that he is gay," he asked his studio guest if the images will "have an effect on this program which is a cultural phenomenon in America?"
Lambert will advance to the Top 7 next week. The final two contestants are scheduled to perform on May 19, 2009. The winner will be determined by the viewing public who will vote via telephone and text-messaging after each show, and the results will be announced during the following night's broadcast.

Come on, Adam !
But as far as his sexual orientation go, I couldn't care less. The one who really makes me tingle inside is Danny Gokey :D
Post 6 " flamboyant...he does not shove it into people's face"
Sexual ambiguity used to be almost compulsory for rock stars, and they all wore feminine make up, no matter how straight they were really, because they loved challenging the establishment and were expected to be rebellious: shoving it in our faces was exactly what they did do. Bowie, Jagger, Almond, Bolan, Queen, Sweet, Cockney Rebel, Boy George, George Michael, etc etc all hugely successful, wearing eyeliner, glitter, ...and very flamboyant. Showmanship.
But this guy certainly doesn't need any of those gimmicks, keeping it simple works for him.
Post #7 seoulseeker. I agree. As for Bill O' Reilly, he like many losers and scumbags in the world exist, simply cos we live in a very sick world today. The network keep him there cos controversy sells. See how he unprofessionally bullies Barney Frank and Bill Maher frequently with no regard for fair play, and yet these are seasoned people. Adam, being well mannered, will be easy target for this old twig out to boost ratings. I doubt anyone cares about sexuality when talent is so major here.
i secretly wish it was him this season.
If you think you don't and cannot think of any , please look into the mirror. If you do not own one , get one. Mirrors don't lie.
Cheers :)
I remember the "outing" of Prof. Dumbledore of the "Harry Potter" series. In an interview after the last book was written, J K Rowling stated that "fact" blandly in response to some question, almost as an aside. That news caused quite a sensation - among the straight community.
Some straight people felt betrayed by J K Rowling. They thought she was making up this story as an afterthought, for some additional cheap publicity: she wanted to hit the headlines even more, and this was her cheap way of doing it. "Of course he's not gay. Not such a brilliant magician. Just not possible. Nowhere in the stories does he 'behave like a gay'. Get over it, Rowling", was the attitude.
Some people felt betrayed by Dumbledore, regarding him like some kind of defector, like a nuclear scientist who has been doing wonders for his country all along, but one day suddenly defects to the enemy country carrying with him all his secrets.
"Dumbledore, HOW could you DO this to US", was the attitude.
"Why did you suddenly decide to "go gay" like this, when we were getting to love you so much?"
Some people suddenly started seeing the whole series in a completely new light. "Dirty old man was lusting after Harry Potter all along. No wonder he was around him all the time, always trying to impress him. They should have kicked him out of the school"
What did the three stars in the movie think about Dumbledore being gay? (I am referring to Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe), Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint) and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson).) This question was put to them in real life after Rowling's revelation, and the interview can be found on Youtube.
Radcliffe and Grint appeared quite taken aback at this statement from Rowling. They had no idea that Dumbledore could have been gay, and neither of them appeared comfortable with the idea. These two aren't particularly bright in their real lives, just as with their screen persona.
Emma Watson however reacted immediately and matter-of-factly with: "It fits. It fits perfectly. Makes perfect sense."
Watson got it right. She is as smart in real life as she is in the movies.
That was my immediate reaction too. Yes, it did fit perfectly in retrospect. I hadn't thought about it while reading the books, except at one place while reading the last book, where Rowling refers to Grindelwald, Dumbledore's "friend": "a young man with golden hair. In the split second that the lantern's light illuminated him, Harry saw the delight upon his handsome face"
I remember wondering vaguely in the back of my mind at that time, about why Rowling was describing Grindelwald in this way, because those descriptions did have quite an effect on me too;-)
My point here is that the straight community finds it really hard to accept, or even to imagine, the presence of excellence in the gay community, even with a mere fictional character!!!
If someone is intelligent, interesting, humorous, kind, caring, brave, resourceful, charismatic, a good leader, sets a good example for others, ... he can't possibly be gay, right?
"Isn't it ridiculous to claim that the most powerful magician of them all was gay, even if he was only a fictional character?
"Come on, we all know what fags are like. We see them in those processions all the time, don't we?
"Okay, so these girlie fags know how to stir up a dish, or cut your hair, or select the right colours of shoes to wear to your friend's little poochie's birthday party, or run around naked in public making lewd suggestions and grabbing at people's crotches, but can they do any "real" he-man stuff?"
All these people either missed, ignored or rejected the real point being made by J K Rowling here, that a gay man can be as "normal" as anyone else, that he can be a wonderful and extremely talented person, and you may not even realise that he was gay unless you were informed of the fact.
Seen from that angle, I'm happy to proclaim: "Yes, he's a great mechanic/construction worker/electrician/scientist/sportsman/astronaut/professor/magician/singer/racer/reporter/soldier and he also happens to be gay".
It's time people started getting "de-conditioned" of their belief that "great" and "gay" could not possibly co-exist within the same person. Isn't it about time we started feeling "proud" about those things too?
An awesome voice and a great talent. Why do people care what floats his boat?
The main reason is because of the fact that humans are in the mix. Humans just can't remove their minds from the gutter. Gay or Straight, male or female, we are all horny little monkeys, who can't play fair...most of the time. Just dig down deep and you will find that to be so. Best defence is...stop passing the buck and stop being so narcissistic.
he will win American Heart!!
At the end of the day, sexual preference is really as insignificant as the color of the skin or hair. It's really what the person's character is and his/her capabilities that count.
For the straights who couldn't accept sexual minorities and refuse to believe is greatness achievable by sexual minorities, ask themselves if they did achieve greatness in themselves? The sad thing is that most people are happier to see the downfall of others than their own success, hence there's always outright discrimination...
"How can some immoral, God-forbidden abomination be gifted by God with talents and greatness?" It's the same kinda discrimination as in the earlier days between "white superiors" and blacks in America. Other countries have their own share of racial disputes as well. People are always so bogged down by differences. People never learn, do they?
Most of us in this website are.
Oh honey, as usual, you tickle my funny bone...from what I read below so far, none 0f the posters below ever claim Adam to be gay LOL...but I understand; most of us here uses British- not American - English, so perhaps you may have some problem en comprenade, Ah, pity. Pity.
And oh, speaking of 'all the trash', do you mean STRAIGHT talentless gay-wannabies a la Katy Perry, Lindsay Lohan etc ??? Oh yes, precisely!!
I too am irritated by the way these ppl just hijack & b@stardize our culture to appear different & cool to the uncomprehanding masses...tsk. tsk.
Little wonder we got backlash from the proleteriat, with religious loonies only too happy to exploit their sentiments. Grrrrr...anyway, all the best to Adam Lambert, great guy that he is. Cheerio!
None of the posters EXCEPT #26 effendi claims Adam Lambert to be gay. Pardonne moi.
Show us the link.
And would appreciate if you have the basic courtesy- if not the discerning ability- to not confuse actual gays & lesbians with commercial wannabes & tar them as 'trash'.
You are in effect insulting:
1) Yves St Laurent
2) Freddy Mercury
3) Ian McKellen
4) Greta Garbo
5) Tracy Chapman
6) k d Lang
Ask youself if you have half their ability, talent,,,
or greatness.
All I know is that he's really a great singer!
Let's root for him!
oh dear, oh dear...but hey, I am Indonesian of mixed heritage AND lesbian...not 'American-style professional queer' as you so condescendingly term (if yr family taught you better manners you would perhaps be a little more polished in expressing yr views, however bitter you feel).
Of course there are differences between gay people of different nationalities...anyone 20yrs or older can figure that out. Just like people who share common ethnic, religious or even less deep interests like photography, I feel affinity for my fellow GLBT brothers & sisters worldwide- wherever they come from. . is that a crime???
So yr entire diatribe about "gay American cultural imperialism', while sounding impressive,
is of little more substance than hot air.
You seem like an intelligent man, but you are bitter...honey, our gay life is hard enough.
Make love, not war. ;-)
Oh, & it's always gracious to leave nice words behind, so...all the best to Adam Lambert!!!!
:-)
Adam is gay? So what? Lots of people are gay. Haven't you noticed?
And as for the Fox Network, why would anyone watch Fox? Do you also listen to Rush Limbaugh?
In fact I found a lot more HETEROS, esp. men, who are most dismissive of Susan Boyle her despite her great talent.... bcos 'she's just not hot'-
Since yr profile says 'straight male' perhaps YOU can try explaining that.
I for one wouldn't pretend I find Susan 'beautiful'; bt I MUST admit, her talent surpasses ALLthings physical about her & for that, I admire her for it.
Adam Lambert ,Susan Boyle...2 very different people ,but with one thing in common- TALENT.
I pity you if you have a problem with that.
Dear lagunabro, have you realized you are a walking advertisement for what is wrong with American society? ;)) You people are so easily fooled by surface appearance, it's really...sad??
