The Fiji Times on Aug 30 reported that the former British colony became the first Pacific island nation to formally decriminalise consensual homosexuality last year.
The news was in relation to a report issued by Amithi Fiji – a project that focuses on transgender and MSM Fijians of Indian descent – at the 10th International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific in Busan, South Korea.
It reported that despite this significant step forward, there was a distinct lack of information about men who had sex with men (MSM) and transgender people in Fiji.
