Alleged Canadian body-parts killer Luka Rocco Magnotta, who killed and dismembered a Chinese student in Montreal, has arrived back in Canada on Monday after being extradited from Berlin, Germany where he was arrested last week.
According to media reports, the 29-year-old former gay porn-star is suspected of dismembering and eating 33-year-old Jun Lin, a student at Montreal's Concordia University.
The case made international headlines after a janitor found the torso of Lin in a travel bag outside Magnotta's west-end Montreal apartment on May 29. Lin's hand and foot were mailed to federal political parties in Ottawa as well as to two Vancouver schools. His head hasn't been found. Police say DNA results confirm that the body parts belong to Lin who was originally from the eastern Chinese city of Wuhan.
Magnotta reportedly filmed himself committing the act in an 11-minute video which was uploaded to the internet, while listening to a song from American Psycho. CNN reports that the Montreal police have said the video shows Magnotta engaged in sexual acts involving body parts and also included evidence of cannibalism.
The CNN report further described Magnotta as a stripper and escort who has been accused by animal rights activists of killing kittens and using the carcasses in sexual acts.
The Toronto native was arrested June 4 in an Internet cafe in Berlin after the cafe owner recognised him. He faces charges of first-degree murder and indignity to a body. He also faces charges of distribution of obscene materials as well as criminal harassment of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and of Parliament.
A candlelight vigil will be held in Montreal at 9 pm at Dorchester Square, at Peel St. and René Lévesque Blvd. Concordia University will accept donations and disburse them through its existing fundraising infrastructure and will create an award to support other Chinese students in Lin's memory.

I think Magnotta got caught because he's a dumb psychopath. (Psychopath doesn't automatically mean Hannibal Lecter genius.) But, even a dumb psychopath could have tricked Lin Jun into thinking it was love.

Is there any foolproof way to "educate" or deter potential psychopaths? What would you suggest? Just imprison murderers and feed them for the rest of their lives with our public money? Most people are lucky enough to never meet a psychopath. I was the victim of one and he has absolutely no sense of right or wrong; the only thing that matters to him is being always able to manipulatie/control innocent victims. For him that is THE game he likes to play.

If I was murdered I would think capital punishment for my murderer far too quick a fix, I think making the criminal having a long tortuous agonising life is far more of a punishment than death which is probably sweet release for him, opinions are subjective and they vary, many thanks for your kind attention.

We all have our crosses to bear, pathetic to make of it an excuse to be irresponsible or nasty, I'd quite like to see my murderer having 50 years of hard labour and perhaps act as a guinea pig for all kinds of psychological/mental/medical/biological experimentation and to have his organs harvested, maybe when alive to ensure their freshness.

He is mentally ill. I too have little faith left in the Canadian Judicial System. It is soft and often exploited by criminals. However, I am still fairly sure he will never see society in his life again. Unfortunately of little consequence to his victim Lin.

That was my initial reaction as well. But what's done is done. The story's been posted, it's on the site's main page and censoring it after it's already received 70+ comments is like trying to put the toothpaste back in the tube. Maybe there is some lemonade that can be squeezed from this disgusting crime from this depraved subhuman.

Getting drugged, robbed and raped is not a GWM-only thing. It happened to me many years ago, was perpetrated by a gang of Asians and I contracted an STD because of it.
I have seen the video "one lunatic- one icepick" (it took me 2 goes to get through it as it is so horrific) and it is very clear that the perpetrator had taken a certain amount of trouble to set the whole situation up. No "heat of the moment" lovers tiff here. It was totally premeditated.
