It's really sad that such uninformed people get publicity - and can claim academic competence. I guess it's because the country is so sexually repressed that it's not possible for knowledgeable transgender folk to get the word out.

Proof that just because you have a title or degree you don't have to be intelligent... I am continually amazed to see the amount of pure ignorance in the world... Please help this woman!

The remark about "loss to women" betrays the bias of this woman's thoughts. It is a shame that someone can call herself Dr but not have the slightest idea about the Scientific Method. I am not a doctor but anyone with intelligence would know that this sort of remark is petrol on a flame in Malaysia. Shame on her really.

It's sad she thinks she's pursuing science. It is pseudo-science largely shaped by her religious biases and this can make thousands of people miserable in her country.

If the acclaimed local Malaysian professor is so expert in the studies and research on transgender, then why terms used need to be enclosed within " ". This is clearly a transparent physchological (mind the spelling) discrimination against trangenders. Kudos to the professor to agree that 70% of transgender in the country comprise of Malays! We should stop blaming others for the causes and effects.

I have many friends who are transgenders who have never been raped, never been exposed to environmental toxins, and yet they are transgenders. Almost all of them are intelligent and university graduates.

Transgenders are born transgenders and transgenders are special like you and me.

I am not surprised if her research method, qualitative and quantitative method, samples, respondents, data collection and statistics, hypothesis etc are faulty, bias, ideological, and questionable.

Haha I can't stop laughing and here we have a "professor" with lots of cow sense. I am not surprised that she is a product of the local academia where common sense is not really that common. Many of them can't really speak English and talk rubbish each time they open their mouths. This is one reason for the gradual erosion of educational standards in Malaysia.

It's tragic that a demented woman's rambling personal opinion could possibly be added into Malaysian law. Unfortunately Malaysia is not the only place where uneducated simple-minded bumpkins are allowed to share extremely biased and extremely prejudiced opinions with the public...she sounds like some of those deep southern US fundamentalist religious leaders, except their opinions are only heard within the confines of houses of worship, and tv evangelist shows.
Maybe she has a secret desire to wear a strap-on to a fetish party ;-)

Ignorance, agenda and power are a destructive combination.

I think Dr. Abdullah gave herself away when she spoke about her example "the man who engaged in a same sex-encounter." Initially tough and handsome. It was such a loss for women" I'm not buying it in that "there is no scorn greater than the scorn of a woman". This is a doctor's boyfriend or someone close to her who "went the other road in following his real feelings". Sad that in her view since being dropped for a man that she takes it out on the transgender. Personally he probably just became a tough and handsome gay man who likes to bottom. These type of Doctors also like to bring there religion into there theories. You see if she really does believe in religion the God or Mohammed whoever you pray to never makes mistakes...therefore he was not nor are transgender people a mistake. She also does not take into consideration that humans are just the high order species on this Earth and in all species they have found heterosexual, bisexual, and homosexuality. Hey Doctor it, ones sexuality, is in the genes and chromosomes of the human species. Another thing the good Doctor fails to realize is that it takes a male and a female to produce a homosexual. I agree with most commenters that the amount of ignorance that comes out of some people who put Dr. in from of their name is truly amazing.

Outrageous but hardly surprising given the parlous state of Malaysian education. I do wonder what role the influx of UK and educational establishments from other countries will play and their potential influence on what seems to be a hardly fit for purpose system.

I hope this is not a reflection of the education standard of malaysia.

It is sad to see this but it is around more than we know.

All of us agree that this is utterly madness and nonsense, totally disconnected from the civilised Western world.

QS World University Rankings 2014 ranked University Putra Malaysia very low, only Number 376 university in the world, compared to other universities which were ranked of much higher quality.

For example, according to the World Reputation Rankings 2014, the best Number 1 top university in the world is Harvard University. National University of Singapore is ranked as the Number 21 top university in the world.

I guess it doesn't take much to be a professor in Malaysia.

You can be sure that BN (Malaysia's governing party) and the Muslim council for Malaysia will love this and use it as evidence to further their efforts to cure children in schools by the use of strategies that are in fact inhuman.
