Famous Hong Kong songwriter convicted of filming man in public toilet

Award-winning songwriter, Samuel Tam, has admitted to secretly filming a man in a toilet and pleaded guilty to computer misuse.

The incident took place at the iSquare mall in Tsim Sha Tsui on 30 March. Tam, 45, was caught holding his mobile phone under the wall of the cubicle adjoining his.

Tam was found with four videos of the victim on two phones, according to Gay Star News.

In his defence, Tam presented letters that demonstrated his remorse at the act. He also explained he had suffered from depression and anxiety due to coming out, which had led him to be compelled to do something 'exciting.'

Tam rose to fame in the early nineties, writing famous songs for singers such as Cherrie Choi and Amanda Lee.

Tam was released on bail until sentencing on 31 July.
